Using Bathroom Tile Design For Affordable Effect

How to Add Style to Your Bathroom Without Breaking the Budget

Bathroom with Decorative Tile

Great article from houzz.com providing design tips on how to use tile accents to create an impact in your bathroom on a budget!  It does not have to cost a fortune to incorporate some great decorative tiles,  accessories or to create accent walls using paint or paneling.  Next time you are out shopping pick up a new frame for your vanity mirror and a gallon of paint...you will be amazed at what a difference it can make!

  1. Add a decorative border.  Start with a less expensive white tile and add a border of a more expensive colored tile to provide a "wow" factor.
  2. Create a feature wall.  Install tile on the wall behind the mirror or on one wall of the shower to create a focal point.  An accent wall will cost less than using an expensive tile for the entire shower.
  3. Create a feature floor.  Go to basic on the walls but splurge on the floor!  A graphic black and white mosaic or a hexagon marble tile can add that "pop" to a bathroom without breaking the bank!
  4. Add beadboard or paneling.  Mixed with mosaic borders or floors and a beautiful decorative mirror will make the bathroom look like it's fit for a queen (but not on a royal budget!)
  5. Make a decorative statement.  Incorporate a unique design element...install tile vertically or use a special color or patterned glass for the shower enclosure.
  6. Add a bold wall color.  Paint is cheap so use it to provide dramatic appeal.  Don't be scared to use dark wall colors in a small space...it can create huge design impact!
  7. Go monochrome.  All white or all black is so unexpected it makes a real design statement on it's own!
