Below are a few reminders:

  1. Keep ahead of ice dams.  Make sure to clean out gutters and remove snow from the roof and gutters whenever possible.
  2. Check windows to see if seals are broken.  If they are fogged or condensation forms between panes the units should be replaced for better energy efficiency during the cold winter months.
  3. Keep an eye on trees.  Be sure to have dead limbs removed before winter sets in and brush heavy snow off tree limbs which can be reached.
  4. Keep paths cleared of ice and snow.
  5. Have your fireplace cleaned.
  6. Prevent frozen pipes.  Insulate pipes and in frigid temperatures let the faucets drip slightly.
  7. Protect entryway flooring.  Helps prevent slipping accidents and longevity of flooring.
  8. Check your emergency supplies.  Be prepared with water, nonperishable foods, flashlights, batteries and a phone.
  9. Keep heating system running smoothly.
  10. Check batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
  11. Stop cold air from coming in.  Make sure your windows and doors are tightly sealed and seal any cracks in foundation walls.
