Mirrors: A True Reflection in Great Design

Dining Room w/Large Mirror

Mirrors can be used in design in many ways...whether it's to create the illusion of space, highlight a spectacular view or to reflect light.  This article from houzz.com provides some great tips on how to incorporate mirrors into your home design.

  • Wall mirror behind a chest.  Creates the illusion of space in a small room or hall.
  • Sunburst mirror over a console or bed.  Spices up the space with a little :sunshine"!
  • Pretty mirrors behind lamps on nightstands.  Ramps of the glow of the bedside lamps.
  • Place a mirror directly across from a window.  Can reflect a spectacular view or just provide additional light.
  • Mirrored backsplash in kitchen.  Opens up a small kitchen.
  • Tuck a round framed mirror in a bookcase to provide an illusion of depth.
  • Extra large mirror installed over your mantle.  Maximizes light and opens up the space.
  • Full length mirrors in home gym.  Install 2-3 smaller mirrors to create a cozy environment.
  • Small mirrors propped on picture shelf.  Pair with art for charming arrangement than can be easily changed.

Mirrors are a decorator's best friend, and with good reason — a well-placed mirror makes the most of a room's natural light, enhances views, opens a small space and adds oomph to decor. The key lies in pairing the right mirror with the right location to maximize its decor-uplifting potential.
